Name: State Game and Fish Commission - RG 362
Variant Name: State Game Commisioner

Historical Note: The Office of State Game Commissioner was created in 1899 succeeding to the powers and duties formerly vested in the state game wardens (L. 1899, p. 222). The Governor appointed the game commissioner and he in turn appointed local game wardens and deputies. The duties of the commissioner included the enforcement of state laws regarding game animals and birds and the prosecution of violators of such laws. Fines resulting from prosecutions were paid into the Game Fund of the State Treasury. In 1913 the office was abolished and its powers and duties were transferred to the newly created State Game and Fish Commission (L. 1913, p. 363). The Game and Fish Commission was succeeded in 1917 by the Division of Fish and Game of the Department of Agriculture (L. 1917, p. 2).
