Board of Pharmacy - RG 353 | Illinois State Archives

Name: Board of Pharmacy - RG 353

Historical Note:

The Board of Pharmacy was created in 1881 with members appointed by the Governor (L. 1881, p. 119). It was responsible for the examination of all applicants for registration as pharmacists and assistant pharmacists, the granting of certificates of registration, and the prosecution of all persons violating its regulatory provisions.

The board also was responsible for the prosecution of violations of the 1881 Pharmacy Act, including the adulteration or substitution of drugs, improper or inadequate labeling, and improper sales of poisons and habit-forming drugs. The Civil Administrative Code of 1917 abolished the board and transferred all its powers and duties to the newly created Department of Registration and Education.
