Historical Note: The Election Laws Commission was created by the General Assembly in 1961 to study Illinois election laws and make recommendations for their modernization, simplification, and effectiveness. It was composed of five Senate members appointed by the president pro tempore, five House members appointed by the Speaker, and five citizens appointed by the Governor. The commission reported to the General Assembly every two years (L. 1961, pp. 3799-1800). The commission was abolished by the Legislative Commission Reorganization Act of 1984 (P.A. 83-1257, p. 1174).
