Historical Note: The Commission on Compensation to Victims of Crimes of Violence was created by the General Assembly in 1965 to study the feasibility of such a program. It was to determine who are to receive compensation, the amounts of compensation, standards of proof required, procedures for recovery, and the cost for the administration of such a program. It was composed of five members of the Senate appointed by the president pro tempore, five members of the House appointed by the Speaker, and five public members appointed by the Governor. The commission was to make its final report to the General Assembly by February 1, 1967 and then was to pass from existence on July 1, 1967 (L. 1965, pp. 2837-2838).
