Historical Note: The Elementary and Secondary Non-Public Schools Study Commission was created by the General Assembly in 1969 to study the role and needs of non-public schools in the state, determine how they can be appropriately related to the public schools without impairment of there freedom, and ascertain constitutional means by which the state can aid them in the fulfillment of their task. It was composed of five members of the House, five members of a the Senate, and four public members, all appointed by the legislative leadership. It was to make its report to the General Assembly by February 1, 1971 and a then pass from existence on July 1, 1971 (P.A. 76-780, pp. 1605-1606).
