Historical Note: The Handgun Study Commission was created by the General Assembly in 1973 to examine all facets of the use of handguns in Illinois, review handgun legislation enacted by other states and the federal government, and report its findings to the General Assembly by February 15, 1974. It was composed of five members of the Senate and five members of the House respectively appointed by the president and the Speaker. The commission expired on July 1, 1974 (P.A. 78-549, pp. 1540-1541).
