Historical Note: The Family Study Commission on Marriage, Divorce and Parental Responsibility was created by the General Assembly in 1967 to make a thorough study of the laws which pertain to the family, including parental responsibility, marriage, divorce, and such other relationships between parents and children which affect society. Having conducted its study the commission was to recommend legislation designed to improve conditions. It was composed of four members of the Senate and one public member appointed by the president pro tempore, four members of the House and one public member appointed by the Speaker, and eight public members appointed by the Governor. The commission was to make its final report to the General Assembly by February 15, 1969 and then pass from existence on July 1, 1969 (L. 1967, pp. 3641-3642).
