Name: Illinois Commission for the Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment - RG 530

Historical Note: The Governor declared by proclamation (94-428) the year from August 1994 to August 1995 as Women’s Equality Year and August 1995 as Women’s Suffrage Month in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment to the U. S. Constitution. To prepare for the celebration, the Governor established the Illinois Commission for the Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which consisted of 21 women representing statewide women’s organizations. Its purpose was to organize state and local programs to commemorate the anniversary and to seek funding for those programs (the commission did not receive state budgetary allocations).
