Legislative Advisory Committee on Public Assistance - RG 616 | Illinois State Archives

Name: Legislative Advisory Committee on Public Assistance - RG 616

Historical Note: The Legislative Advisory Committee on Public Assistance was created in 1963 to advise the Illinois Public Aid Commission on matters relating to policy and the administration of public assistance and services. When exceptions to law are contemplated by the Public Aid Commission in the rendering of assistance, approval must be obtained from a two-thirds majority of the Legislative Advisory Committee. The committee in turn reports to each regular session of the General Assembly any deviations made from statutory limitations and provides recommendations for remedial legislation. The committee is composed of six members of the House appointed by the Speaker and six members of the Senate appointed by the president pro tempore. No more than three members appointed from each house can be members of the same political party (L. 1963, p. 987). The Legislative Advisory Committee was abolished effective March 31, 1985 (P.A. 83-1503, pp. 3969-3971).
