Historical Note: The Commission on Gang Crime Activity was created by the General Assembly in 1982 to study various means of alleviating gang crime activity, recommend overall plans to combat this problem, and submit proposed legislation to effectuate overall plans. It was composed of two House members appointed by the Speaker, two House members appointed by the minority leader, two Senate members appointed by the president pro tempore, two Senate members appointed by the minority leader, one public member appointed by each of the above mentioned authorities, and three public members appointed by the Governor. It was to report its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly regularly (P.A. 82-893, pp. 2007-2008). The commission was abolished by the Legislative Commission Reorganization Act of 1984 (P.A. 83-1257, p. 1175).
