Historical Note: The Illinois National Guard Study Commission was created by the General Assembly in 1981 to study ways to improve the efficiency of the National Guard and increase its membership; review National Guard property and facilities and investigate how they can be better used, expanded, or disposed of; and recommend appropriate legislation. It was composed of two members of the House appointed by the Speaker, two members of the House appointed by the minority leader, two members of the Senate appointed by the president pro tempore, two members of the Senate appointed by the minority leader, and four public members appointed by the Governor. Two of the public members were to be members of the Illinois National Guard. It was to report regularly to the General Assembly (P.A. 82-571, pp. 2870-2871). The commission was abolished by the Legislative Commission Reorganization Act of 1984 (P.A. 83-1257, p. 1175).
