Historical Note: The Commission on the Organization of the General Assembly was created in 1965. It was composed of the Speaker of the House, the president of the Senate, five additional members each from the House and Senate, and ten citizens appointed by the Speaker of the House and the president of the Senate. Its duties included studying and evaluating the operation and organization of the General Assembly with special attention to rules and procedures; uses of manpower, equipment, facilities, and appropriations; the organization and operation of legislative service agencies; and existing practices for providing printing and stationery. It originally was charged with making a formal written report in 1966 and was to expire in 1967 (L. 1965, p. 795). In 1967 its life was extended until July 1969 so that it could be consulted concerning its report (L. 1967, p. 987).
