Commission on State Government - RG 554 | Illinois State Archives

Name: Commission on State Government - RG 554

Historical Note: The Commission on State Government was created in 1965 to survey the organization, functions, and interrelationships of all state governmental units, including advisory bodies (L. 1965, p. 3054). The commission was to examine all laws applying to governmental operations and to make recommendations for increased efficiency, based on the simplification or consolidation of functions and the elimination of duplication of duties. The commission's authority did not extend, however, to the revenue system of the state. The fifteen-member commission, composed of five state Senators, five state Representatives, and five citizens appointed by the Governor completed its work and made its final report to the Governor and the General Assembly in 1967.
