Historical Note: The Task Force on the Future of Illinois was created in 1977. It was composed of four members each from the House and Senate and nine persons appointed by the Governor. It was charged with creating statewide awareness of factors affecting the state's future, providing a forum through which citizens could express their viewpoints concerning present conditions and future prospects, analyzing issues required for future oriented decision making, formulating and evaluating alternatives, articulating goals and objectives regarding future development, and recommending an agenda for implementing actions to reach goals. The task force was to pay particular attention to economic development, job opportunities, and the management and conservation of natural and manmade resources (P.A. 81-769, p. 3078). It submitted interim reports in 1978 and 1979 and a final report in 1980 at which time it expired (P.A. 81-769, pp. 3078-3080).
