Historical Note: The Illinois Legislative Furniture Commission, composed of the Secretary of State and two members each from the House and Senate, was created in 1909 by a joint resolution of both houses of the General Assembly. The furniture of the General Assembly was found to be old, inadequate, and uncomfortable and the commission was charged with acquiring new furniture and making such other improvements to the House and Senate chambers that were deemed necessary (L. 1909, p. 484).
